Yes, you may have been mislead. You have been shared partial truths mixed with falsities. This isn't fun and you are probably confused and upset. Do not let go of your faith entirely, its time to dig deep and just untangle what is false from what is true. God is still worth it, He is worth the journey. Look for truth and answers, not a way out.

Often false doctrine subtly put the emphasis on us rather than on God. See where you were looking to yourself and replace that with God and his goodness being enough for you. God is God, and we are meant to worship him, not be him.

This once again isn't always a fun thought, but as you hunger for truth you will see why it is so important. Find a Church rooted in the true Biblical gospel. If you don't even know where to begin with that I suggest reading your Bible like never before. Read the footnotes, read the maps, and look at the context of the scriptures that may confuse you now. Think verse- within the chapter-within the book-in regards to the whole Bible. No cherry picking verses. Get excited about learning Biblical history and context. You are on a path of learning some of the most incredible things as you also grow in deeper relationship with Christ. In the end what is important is knowing loving and serving the real true God... not a counterfeit version of him.
